Abba, Father – Daddy

The cool, cloudy day displayed the deep purples, the foliage and the intensity of the Colorado red rocks.  It set the stage for a more leisurely hike for young and old to hike in the beautiful Colorado mountains.

It was one of the many festive activities to celebrate a long-awaited wedding – fourteen years in the making.

Family and friends gathered from near and far to catch-up, reminisce and extend long over-due hugs.

Time away from our busy schedules can be met with sweet surprises.

It only takes a moment for the innocence of a sweet 2-year old to simply love and express it so dearly.

My son-in-law instructed my grandson to stay on the path for the journey ahead.  All the provisions my grandson needed were provided – fresh water to quench his thirst and food for the journey to satisfy his hunger.  Guidance and protection along the path was already deeply established between them because my grandson loved and trusted his daddy.

These provisions gave Adam the freedom to run and explore the unknown sites and scenery.  His inquisitive sense of adventure allowed him to see and touch creation in a different way.  He could experience all he desired as long as he stayed on the path and the boundaries set before him by his father.  Boundaries established out of love and concern for Adam’s safety and well-being.

IMG_0957Adam ventured ahead, but consistently turned around and kept his eyes on his daddy.  When he lagged behind he looked ahead and ran with all his strength and might to be held in his daddy’s loving arms.  Adam’s desire of wanting nothing more than to be in the presence of his father.

That’s how our heavenly Father loves and embraces us along our life’s journey.

“Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry
with good things.”  Psalm 107:8-9 – NIV

Our Father sets us on our life journey.  He instructs us to stay on the path and within the boundaries established for our safety because of He loves us.

He gives us the freedom to run and explore the unknown sites and scenery.  He allows our inquisitive sense of adventure to see and touch creation in a different way.  We can experience all we desire as long as we stay on the path and the boundaries set before us by our Father.  Boundaries established in love and concern for our safety and well-being.

All the provisions we need are provided by our Father.

Jesus, the Light of Life, the Living Lampstand who lights our path.  As we follow Him we do not walk in darkness.  He illuminates the pathway to the Father.

Springs of Living Water of the Holy Spirit poured out and flowing to quench our thirsty souls.  He’s ever-present, perfect and complete.  On our journey He intercedes for us and reminds us of our Father’s great promises and grace.  He actively leads, protects and guides us to the perfect will of the Father.

Heavenly Manna, the Bread of Life – God’s Living Word, when consumed daily, it satisfies our hunger.  It’s the spiritual nourishment provided by our Father to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior.

Abba, the Aramaic word for “daddy”, dear Father –

Jesus referred to God as Abba, Father – and invited his followers to do the same.

“…the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.
And by Him we cry, Abba, Father.”  Romans 8:15 – NIV

“Because you are His sons, God sent forth the Spirit of his Son
into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, Abba, Father.”
Galatians 4:6 – NIV

Andrew Murray stated in his book, “The Believer’s Prayer Life“,

“In that name our Savior offered His greatest prayer to the Father,
accompanied by the total surrender and sacrifice of His life and love.
The Holy Spirit is given for the express purpose of teaching us right
from the very beginning of our Christian life, to utter that word in
childlike trust and surrender.”

Is our desire to want nothing more than to be in the presence of our Father?

About Bernadette

I am a widow/single mom excited about finding new adventure, even if it stretches my abilities. Daily, I am challenged by the wisdom of the Bible, Oswald Chambers’ devotionals and the “still small voice” of the Lord as He meets with me every morning. I have enjoyed lots of fun things with my kids and friends... ice fishing, scuba diving, traveling, sleeping in the rain forest with little critters, camping (even below zero weather), hiking, biking (250 mi. ride, the Royal Gorge-lovely), walking a tight rope (25 ft.), built/slept in a quinzhee. Yes, scouting can stretch one beyond belief when you're a mom. I enjoy outdoor activities, cycling and just recently, standup paddle boarding (it doesn’t hurt when you fall). I love Colorado, great place to live! I am discovering how much I love “words”… His Words. They are written on my heart and constantly on my mind. With much prayer and a humble heart, may the words I write be pleasing to Him. And He said unto them, Go into all the world and preach and publish openly the good news (the Gospel) to every creature. Mark 16:15
