One of my daughters gifted me with personalized daily scripture cards.
Yesterday, mine read:
Think about me, Bernie!
“I will keep in perfect peace all those who trust in me, whose thoughts turn often to me, the Lord.” Isaiah 26:3
I cling to those verses for my daily bread – they always apply.
Thursdays are my days to head to the mountains or any great adventure with the Lord as He calls me out. I was looking forward to the peace He promised for my day. Yet, I wondered if His peace would cover the sadness within me.
As I drove higher towards Guanella Pass, warm spatters of gold, red and orange leaves covered the mountain sides. On my hike I breathed in the crisp autumn air and the beauty of the shimmering autumn leaves.
All this beauty around me and I still couldn’t shake the deep shadow of sadness?
The Lord promised peace for the day. Today and everyday live and abide in quiet peace, my dear.
I was at peace, but I couldn’t understand the great surrounding sadness that journeyed with me.
Nehemiah 8:10 says, “The joy of the Lord is your strength!” Please help me find the joy and strength for today.
I asked and prayed, “Lord, is there something I don’t understand, I haven’t prayed about, I haven’t forgiven? Please show me.”
His response was silence, stillness and His peace, as promised.
As the day ended I realized some days may have unexplained sorrow, that’s okay.
The unexplained sorrow helped me to walk and abide in peace.
Then, I remembered this poem I read by Robert Browning Hamilton:
” I walked a mile with Pleasure,
she chattered all the way;
But, left me non the wiser
For all she had to say.
I walked a mile with Sorrow,
And ne’er a word said she;
But oh, the things I learned from her
When Sorrow walked with me.”
Thank you, Lord, for your peace today, regardless of the sorrow.
How is your walk today?
Have you learned to walk in the abiding silence and stillness of the Lord in peace?
Regardless of the undercurrents of troubles within you, hold on to the Lord’s promises.
God bless your day.
Bernie, thanks so much. I love your pictures, your words, your wisdom and the peace you share. Yes, some days are just sad but to know God is there whether sad or happy is the key to contentment for me. Happy happens some days but contentment is mine most. Luv ya. laura

Thank you, Laura.
Yes, it seems it’s taken a lifetime, but the abiding in the Lord is the key. It keeps your attention on Him and our weary souls in Him. Hope to see you soon!

I had a similar experience, many years ago when getting to know the Lord in a new way, there was a certain tree that always lifted by heart up to heaven, I named it to the Lord as “my hosanna tree” Passing beneath it one evening, I was literally stopped in my tracks by a question from the Holy Spirit “Why are you so sad?” Immediately I denied it, I was just weary, or so I thought. A few days later, I just burst into tears…. yes I had been sad… hadn’t recognised it, because I had been so strongly in control of grief for my father who had died a couple of months earlier, this was for my mother’s sake, he died at an early age …. The Lord had used the Hosanna Tree to loosen and finally release the emotion I had kept so carefully pent up, He walks with us always …

Thank you for sharing this tender moment with the Lord.
The Lord seems to use those sorrowful moments to draw me ever closer to Him.
I truly function from the heart.
Sorrow and pain have cut deep from the death of my spouse, parents, relatives and recently a nephew. I hate the lingering fractures and unanswered questions left behind.
However, it allows one to step deeper into the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Those times helps one to evaluate and press into the Lord to carry the flame of the heart – the fire that burns and to love better those around us (as only He can impart to us).
God bless you!

Thank you, Dave.
I haven’t been on FB much these days. Hope you and your family are well and abiding in the Lord.
Have you been writing? Riding your motorcycle?
May the Lord keep you in peace and wrapped in the blanket of His love, mercy and grace.
God bless you!

Hello Jan,
Thank you! Yes, kindred spirit, I love that!
Wonderful poem, “If You Were Busy.” Hope you don’t mind if I printed it to read as part of my devotional time. Busy being wise – God’s Wisdom – that’s the treasure to seek and find. If we have the “Wisdom of God”, all the other busy doing and busy being would be in the right place in our hearts to bless other and ourselves.
God’s peace for your day!
